Homeschooling Resources…

Here we are in lockdown 3.0  and once again COVID-19 sees many children being schooled at home.  Here’s a few links which you may find useful to keep their creative minds going.  They’re all engineering, creative, travel or outdoors based and I hope will be of use to you.  If you have any suggestions, please drop me a line and I’ll add them to the list…
My usual school lectures and visits are all postponed, but I’m working with many schools online.  If you’d be interested in a presentation or session based on my expedition work and how resilience, determination and decision making have shaped my life, please get in touch…

BBC Bitesize is a free online study support resource designed to help with learning, revision and homework!

Bitesize provides support for learners aged 5 to 16+ across a wide range of school subjects. It also supports children and young people’s wellbeing and career choices. From April 20th Bitesize will be publishing daily lessons to help students across the UK with home schooling.

Bitesize guides are written by teachers and subject experts and are mapped to follow the curricula of the UK. Secondary Bitesize follows exam board specifications for the main exam boards in the UK, including for GCSE in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 4, National 5 & Highers in Scotland, ensuring students are preparing for the right exams.

We’ve joined up with ITV and created Top Tips on Tech – a series of videos and guides to help you, your family and friends learn about different technologies and how to get the most out of them. Watch our series of special ad breaks every weekday on ITV, showing in the first break of This Morning and the central break of the ITV Evening News.

Dyson engineers have designed these challenges specifically for children. Ideal for home or in the classroom, they encourage inquisitive young minds to get excited about engineering.

ITV have an announcement for all kids! We are making a very special ITV logo featuring artwork created by kids at home across the nation.

So, for a chance to be part of it, draw, paint or sketch us your best picture. Then ask your parent or guardian to post a photo of your artwork using #ITVKidsCreate and @ITV to Twitter or Instagram.Natures Work activity sheets from Jim Langley – “We’re offering free downloadable and printable activity sheets. Over the coming months the RGS will be producing further resources to support the teaching and learning of geography at home, plus online events, training and lessons. This page will provide an overview of the Society’s support and resources, plus highlight other online geography-related learning opportunities that you might find useful.

You can find out about new resources and events via our Twitter @RGS_IBGschools. You can also find more resources on Twitter using #geographyathome

Ordnance Survey – Getoutside

“It sits at the heart of everything we do, as we firmly believe an active outdoor lifestyle helps you live longer, stay younger and enjoy life more.

However at this difficult time, getting outside as freely as we are used to is going to be a bit of a challenge but we must strive to help and protect each other and our communities. Please follow government advice and click the link above for our latest update.

In the meantime, you can find plenty of learning, inspiration and advice here, so that your love of the outdoors can continue.”
